I was raised in New Rochelle, New York. There, artists throughout my lifetime took time to privately teach me techniques in painting. I was an established artist when I relocated to South Florida in 1991. I have painted commercial and residential murals for over 30 years in New York, Connecticut and Florida. In 1995, I received my Baccheloreate of Science in Interior Design from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. The skills and technical abilities that I learned there (while executing architectural drawings) greatly influenced my work. The murals I paint are lush landscapes and water views featuring interesting architecture. I love to paint on walls and ceilings in grand scale. I evaluate the light, and the movement and the architectural elements before I begin my preliminary sketches. I design and create places that are peaceful. Some paintings are constructed as sculptures or environments. I am drawn to this particular medium. It has been my singular passion all of my life. I have achieved a certain level of facility, which has been redefined into fine art. I seek to make a connection between my philosophical beliefs and my aesthetics. I am very moved by historical philosophies. While studying ancient religions and practices, I meditate and I paint, thus, creating a very personal body of work depicting "peace" ... "harmony" ... "love" ... and "light". My work reflects my philosophical beliefs. Recent paintings include mixed media canvases, painted wood sculptures and painted environments. Past meditations created paper reliefs created with handmade paper blended with the inner bark of the Japanese mulberry bush. Throughout all of my paintings, I express compassion for life and the afterlife. -- Cat Rocco |
